The unit covers key knowledge and understanding to become competent in planning, delivering and evaluating exercise and health sessions to adults, in an unsupervised situation. Key skills that contribute to effective leadership will be considered and an emphasis will be placed upon ensuring that students continually critically analyse and reflect on their performance as a health professional. This unit aligns with the Central YMCA Gymnasium level 2 certificate.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students should be able to:
* Demonstrate a clear understanding of the key principles contributing to successful exercise sessions and professional practice;
* Plan effectively and implement strategies to deliver effective exercise sessions as a competent professional practitioner;
* Reflect and provide critical analysis on their own professional performance;
* Demonstrate effective customer care;
* Produce, deliver, and evaluate a single detailed plan for a safe and effective gym based exercise session.

Content:
Creating an exercise session plan incorporating safety, organisational factors, importance of warm up and cool down, supervision, organisation and control;
Analysing and improving specific performance in a chosen component of fitness;
Identifying and implementing effective performance, including motivating participants, principles of goal setting, feedback and evaluation;
Differentiating and evaluating sessions for selected clientele;
Implementing the health screening process;
Health and safety procedures associated with effective exercise sessions.
