The aims of this unit are to examine the current use of alternative energy in motorsport and the initiatives being undertaken within the motor industry and how they might relate to the subject. The future development work being undertaken by the industry and academia will also be considered. Alternative fuel sources will also be tested and analysed.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students should be able to:
* Analyse the impact of alternative fuels on a given formula of motorsport;
* Evaluate the performance and economy gains inherent in Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems;
* Systematically understand the technical requirements of using Bio-fuels and motorsport specific regulations;
* Systematically understand the use and layout of hybrid propulsion units.
