The aims of this unit are:
* To provide students with an understanding of theories and concepts in relation to teaching English as a second language;
* To enable students to apply the insights they have gained from the Theory of Language unit to their teaching;
* To enhance the professional practice of students through a more critical understanding and sensitivity towards their language teaching approach and method.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit the student will be able to:
* Identify and discuss needs of students and how to address those needs;
* Articulate the pedagogic implications of lesson planning;
* Critically analyse the language they will teach in the classroom;
* Discuss and plan language teaching programmes to teach the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking;
* Design, write and adapt materials for teaching English, and evaluate their effectiveness;
* Analyse the needs of a particular learner and design a programme to meet those needs, and implement part of the programme.
