The aim of this module is to familiarise students with the social work process and to clarify the stages of the social work process and link them to the relevant skills/tasks.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the module students will able to:
* Prepare for social work contact and involvement (Key Role 1 Unit 1 Elements 1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
* Work with individuals/families/carers/groups and communities to help them make informed decisions (Key Role 1 Unit 2 Elements 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4)
* Assess needs, risks and options to recommend a course of action (Key Role 1 Unit 3 Elements 3.1, 3.2, 3.3; Key Role 4 Unit 12 Elements 12.1, 12.2, 12.3; Key Role 4 Unit 13 Elements 13.1, 13.2,13.3)
* Plan, carry out, review and evaluate social work practice with individuals, families, carers, groups, communities and other professionals (Key Role 2 Unit 4 Elements 4.1,4.2,4.3,4.4)
* Monitor, review and evaluate changes in needs and circumstances (Key Role 2 Unit 5 Element 5.4)
* Reduce contact & withdraw from relationships appropriately (Key Role 2 Unit 5 Element 5.5)
* Prepare, produce, implement and evaluate plans with, individuals, families, carers, groups, communities and other professionals (Key Role 2 Unit 6 Elements 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5).
* Apply professional knowledge and skill to the social work process (Key Role 6 Unit 19 Element 19.1a).

Content:
Elements of the social work process: referral, assessment, planning, intervention, monitoring & review of practice. Tasks relevant to the social work process: evaluate & provide access and information and implementation, assessment e.g. needs/risks, planning/monitoring and implementations, review intervention, appropriate reading, cultural diversity.
