* To introduce students to contemporary issues currently at the forefront of the psychology of sport, coaching and physical activity literature.
* To enable students to recognise the theoretical implications of such literature for psychology.
* To enable students to recognise the practical implications of such literature for the contexts of sport, coaching, and physical activity.

Learning Outcomes:
Having studied this unit, students will be able to:
* understand current issues in psychology that are central to the development and advancement of the fields of sport, coaching, and physical activity.
* appreciate how and why such issues are both theoretically and practically central to sport, coaching and physical activity.
* understand, critique, and extend the theoretical assumptions, research methodology, and practical implications at the heart of such literature.

Content:
In this unit students will critically engage with literature on current contemporary issues in psychology of sport, coaching, and physical activity. Specifically, the unit will centre on the following issues: (a) The application of contemporary theories of human motivation, (b) The utility of a psychodynamic perspective in sport, coaching and physical activity, (c) Current issues in mental skills training, and (d) Current issues in the psychology of youth sport and coaching.
