Partner institutions
Our department has links with 22 Erasmus partner institutions, as well as universities in Russia and Mexico.
Students who study some of our language programmes may undertake a study exchange for either one or two semesters in our partner universities.
Global partners
University of Guadalajara (Mexico)
The University of Guadalajara was founded in 1791 and it is the second oldest university in Mexico. Currently it has approximately 185,000 students.
The Centro Universitario de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades (CUCSH) has 25 departments offering 14 undergraduate degrees and 13 postgraduate degrees.
Students can choose from any of the undergraduate study programmes on offer, such as Teaching English as a Foreign Language, history, geography and sociology. Of special relevance to our students is ‘Letras Hispánicas’ or Hispanic Studies. Candidates can also take units in Spanish and Latin American literature, creative writing and linguistics.
Pontificia Universidad Católica (Chile)
Pontificia Universidad Católica was founded in 1888, making it one of the oldest universities in the country. It is a private institution with a strong Christian ethos. It has a very solid reputation within the country and abroad (it is ranked amongst the first three in the country).
The University has approximately 18,000 undergraduate students and 3,000 enrolled in postgraduate degrees. It has over 2,000 academic staff.
The Faculty of Letters, founded in 1971, has two departments: Literature and Linguistics. Students can take two degrees: either Hispanic Literature or English one. The scope of units students can choose from is very appropriate to our programme of study, with subjects ranging from Chilean theatre, poetry, Latin American narrative, Spanish grammar and linguistics.
Voronezh State University (Russia)
Voronezh State University was founded in 1918. It is one of Russia’s leading universities, and in league tables appears among the top four for many indicators. The University is situated south of Moscow, in a historic city where Peter the Great built his fleet. Today Voronezh is a vibrant regional centre with a population of about 900,000.
The University of Bath has an exchange agreement with the Department of English Philology. Students from Bath can study Russian for one or both semesters at the Department of Russian for International Students.
Bath students are welcome to find courses at other Russian universities, but Voronezh is always a popular choice. The course is specially designed for Bath students, accommodation is provided in host families, and there is the opportunity to teach students of English: an excellent way to meet Russians.

Sciences Politiques Paris (France)
Sciences Po Paris is located in Saint Germain des Prés, in the very heart of Paris. Sciences Po Paris was founded in 1872 and is one of the foremost French universities in the social sciences. It attracts the best professors and has trained the vast majority of the current French political, business and administrative elite. You can also choose to study at one of its regional campuses.
Students can study a wide range of units (such as political science, history, sociology, economics, law) as well as all the languages we teach. You are also given the opportunity to study for a specific diploma, if you wish to do so.
Université de Provence, Aix en Provence (France)
Aix en Provence is a small 18th Century city of 130,000 inhabitants, situated in the South of France. It is twinned with Bath and resembles it in many respects. It is a university town and offers a wide range of social activities and it is close to Marseille, which has excellent transport links.
The University of Provence has a split campus; some faculties are based in Aix some in Marseille. You will be studying in Aix itself where the campus is very central.

Freie Universität, Berlin (Germany)
Freie Universität was founded in 1948 and is located in the South West of Berlin. It specialises in the humanities, social sciences and health and natural science.
Students can take a wide range of courses including politics, sociology, history, international relations and languages. The university also provides specific courses for Erasmus students on aspects of German culture and language.

Università degli studi di Roma, La Sapienza (Italy)
La Sapienza is situated in Rome and is one of the largest universities in Europe with over 145,000 students, 23 faculties and 112 departments.
Our exchange is with the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia - Scienze Umanistiche - Studi Orientali and you can take courses from a wide range of departments within the Faculty (including, history, law, economics and modern languages).
Università degli studi Federico II di Napoli (Italy)
Naples is Italy’s third largest city with a population of 1 million. The University of Naples is one of the largest in Italy with 100,000 students enrolled in its 13 schools and 82 departments. It is also one of the oldest, having been founded by Federico II, King of Sicily and Holy Roman Emperor, in 1224.

Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain)
According to a variety of Spanish university tables, Complutense is the top public university in Spain and the largest with over 90,000 students.
Its extensive campus was relocated to the western side of the city in the 1920s and 30s (and rebuilt in the 40s) to replace a collection of buildings assembled since the middle ages in the centre of Madrid.
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain)
A much smaller and newer university than Complutense, Carlos III has an excellent reputation for law, business studies and economics among other subjects.
It has three campuses. The one to which our partner department is affiliated, Getafe, is about 10 km south of Madrid. It can be reached from the centre of Madrid in about 15 minutes.
