Getting registered as a new student

Once you have received an email asking you to complete registration go to the Registration on-line web site to register.

If you have not received an email by the time you leave to take up your place, then please go to the University Library during Induction week. This section explains the process of registration if you are registering as a new student.

Why do I have to complete Registration On-Line

You have to complete registration with the University since it is our way of ensuring that we have the correct details about you; we have recorded your correct programme details and you are able to pay your tuition fees (where applicable). It involves:

When should I register?

You can only start the process of registration when you have firmly accepted your unconditional offer of a place and you have received an email asking you to register with the University. You should have received your BUCS (Bath University Computing Services) username and password in order to access Application Tracker.

We would like you to complete the process of registration before you start your programme. However, you do not need to complete the process all in one go, but when you have finished this will be displayed to you on the screen.

If you do not manage to complete the process before the start of your programme, don't worry: as soon as possible on arrival, use the PCs located in the University Library (or college campus if applicable). Staff will be available in the University Library to help you with any queries from Monday 24 September until Friday 28 September.

If you are a student starting a programme at a partner college, you will have a separate session arranged to help with ROL if you've not managed to complete it before starting your programme. Please see the "Registration & Induction timetable" in the "Getting registered as a new student at a partner college" section".

Process of Registration On-Line

The process of registration takes place on-line. In order to access your details on the on-line registration screen, you will need your BUCS (Bath University Computing Services) username and password. You should have received your BUCS username and password in order to access Application Tracker. You will be asked to complete registration once you have firmly accepted your unconditional offer of a place.

If you've not been able to complete registration before arrival please use the computers in the University lirbary - staff will be available to help you during Induction week. If you've not been asked to register via email before you leave to go to University please go to the Library during Induction week and speak to a member of the Student Records Office staff who will be at the ROL helpdesk in the library during office hours in Induction week.

Once you have completed the process of Registration On-Line (ROL), your status will be updated on the University's central database of student records. Your registered status is then visible to those University staff who need to see this, and this activates your University computer account and allows you to get your library/SU card.

Library and Student Union Card

In addition, once you are registered you can then go to the Library to get a Library/SU card. This card serves as both a Library card and a Students' Union card. In order to obtain the full benefits of the Students' Union don't forget to "sign up" with the Students' Union via their web-site. For more information about the joint Library/SU card and a link to the SU website see the "Sign up for the Students' Union" section.

What happens after I've completed registration?

Once you have completed registration on-line either at home, or in the University Library, we need to confirm your attendance.

New undergraduate students studying at the University of Bath campus who have applied for a student loan

During the University induction events on campus, each department will have an attendance confirmation session, which you must attend. At this session you will sign to confirm your attendance. Please bring with you a form of identification. If you have applied for a student loan from Student Finance England (SFE), then by attending this session, we will confirm your attendance to SFE and they will release your loan cheque into your bank account. If you miss this session, then you should go to the Student Finance sessions in room 1 West 2.5 the following working day to have your attendance confirmed.

If you don't attend a session to confirm your attendance then your loan will be delayed.

Your department will send you information about the induction activities but you can check the event schedule by going to the Departmental Induction web site. Each department is listed - look at your department's page and look for the "Attendance Confirmation" sessions.

Do you have documents (including passport/visa) to show?

If when you completed registration you were given a message about having to show original documents then you must attend a document review session in order to shown the necessary documents. Your registration status will then be updated. Your offer letter will detail which documents you need to show. The Induction web-site explains where and when you should go to show your documents depending on whether your are a Home/EU student or an overseas student. For overseas students sessions will be held on level 3 of the Library during Induction week. Please attend the correct session where possible depending on when you arrive. Home/EU students are asked to go to their Graduate Office (details on the website).

Until you have shown your documents your status will not be updated to show that you are fully registered and you won't be able to activate your University email account. You will however be able to get your library card prior to your documents being checked as long as you have completed registration online.
