Careers has launched a brand-new interactive resource: ‘Using AI effectively in job applications’
In today’s competitive job market, many students are turning to AI for help with their job applications. AI can benefit the job application process in many ways, from aiding targeted research into a company and sector of interest, to highlighting key words to include in a CV.
One thing everyone can agree on: AI certainly saves time! But does it do so at the expense of a successful application? What can AI help with, and what is best left to you and your authentic self? How can you receive the exact outputs you want from AI? This exciting new interactive course includes the following:
- AI as an effective tool
- words of warning
- how to prompt effectively
- examples of effective and weaker prompts
- AI and employers
and more.
AI is now a feature of many students' career journeys. This resource provides practical guidance on how to use these tools effectively, whilst ensuring that applications remain personal, credible and grounded in individual experience.

Why should I use it?
This resource was created by the Careers Bath Insights Intern - a current first-year student. So it has been created by a student, for students.
It is designed to be accessible and engaging, with real examples of prompts and applications. There are handy hints and quizzes that challenge you and test your knowledge with detailed explanations and feedback for each answer.
The short course breaks down effective prompting into a step-by-step bite-sized process and there are opportunities to compare and analyse the outputs of weaker and stronger prompts.
AI is an ever-changing topic, and nobody can predict how it will shape the job market, but this resource provides some general, reliable guidelines for the foreseeable future.
