The University has updated the calculator model used in exams. Students sitting exams on the Bath campus will now be provided with the Casio FX 991CW+ calculator.
Getting familiar with the new calculator
We recommend that students familiarise themselves with the layout and functions of the Casio FX 991CW+ in advance of their exams. You can do this by:
- Borrowing a calculator from the Library, where sample calculators are available to try
- Viewing the calculator specifications and user information, including some video guides, on Casio’s website
Why the change has been made
The University’s stock of exam calculators has rapidly reduced due to wear and tear and calculators being inadvertently removed from exam venues and not returned. The previous model, the Casio FX 991EX, is no longer manufactured, which has meant that additional stock could not be purchased.
To address this, the University has worked with its supplier, Lyreco, to secure a sufficient supply of a suitable replacement ahead of the semester 2 exams.
What this means for exams
- All summative exams held on the Bath campus will use the Casio FX 991CW+
- The previous model (FX 991EX) will not be used
- The FX 991CW+ is functionally comparable, features a simpler menu system, and meets exam requirements across all courses
