Based on years of research lead by scientists across the EU, including Dr Carolin Villforth from the Department of Physics at the University of Bath, the BiD4BEST collaboration has developed a planetarium show that explains the mystery of accreting supermassive black holes to a general audience. The show is distributed under a creative commons license and can therefore be shown to audiences across the globe royalty free, making sure scientific knowledge is available for everyone. The show is available in full dome format to show in planetariums, such as e.g. the planetarium at “We the curious” in Bristol. For those wanting to learn about black holes at home, it is also openly available on Youtube. The show has already been used around the world to get a wide audience interested in cutting edge astrophysics research and thanks to the Open Knowledge approach, will continue to do so.
The planetarium video, 'Supermassive Black Holes: Uncovering the Invisible' can be found here.
