The University has received planning consent for new student accommodation.

The £34.5m Polden development, located to the west of the campus, will offer 293 ensuite bedrooms in 37 flats across two buildings, arranged around a landscaped courtyard.

The flats each have their own kitchen diner and share flexible social space and easy access to the buildings’ gym, communal study spaces and cycle stores.

The buildings, which are outlined in the Campus Masterplan, will complement the existing Polden Court accommodation.

The plans also include a ‘home zone’ around the building with physical kerbs replaced by raised planters and seating to encourage pedestrians and vehicle drivers to safely share road space.

Construction will start in early 2017 with the aim of opening in autumn 2018.

The President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, said:

State of the art accommodation on campus is essential to maintain the high-quality experience we offer our students.

This building is the next step in our strategy to attract students of the highest calibre to Bath.
