David is Professor of International Security and currently leads the Centre for War & Technology. He has been Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty for the last two years.

Speaking about his appointment, David commented: "The Faculty has a strong record of understanding and shaping policy and social behaviours. I know as a lecturer and supervisor that we give a great experience to our students.

"I am keen to make the Faculty a better connected community that will allow us to respond to the changing dimensions of Higher Education in the UK and internationally. My approach will focus on good communication, everyday systems, and the experience of people in the workplace to meet the challenges of the University’s Strategy of research and postgraduate growth."

Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost, Professor Bernie Morley commented: "David has an outstanding reputation as a researcher in international security, making a significant contribution to raising our institutional profile through his expert commentary in the media. I am looking forward to working with him in his new role.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Ian Butler for his contribution as Dean over the past three years. Ian's collegiate approach has supported numerous multidisciplinary initiatives including the successful launch of two cross-faculty courses, Biomedical Sciences and Economics & Mathematics, as well as a new course in Physical Activity and Health."
