Senate welcomed Professor Jeremy Bradshaw, the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International & Doctoral).
The Vice-Chancellor presented her report for 7th February key issues facing the University, and referred to the UCU strike action starting on 22 February.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost, Professor Bernie Morley, gave updates on student registrations for 2017 and applications for 2018.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), Professor Peter Lambert, gave an update on the vanguard programmes for the transformation of the University’s curricula and assessment. Dr Ant Bush from the Department for Health also gave an oral update on the progress of curriculum transformation in their vanguard undergraduate programmes.
The University Secretary gave an update on the HEFCE enquiry concerning governance surrounding senior pay at the University; HEFCE had written to say it was satisfied with the actions the University had taken so far. He also gave an update on the Effectiveness Review of Council being undertaken by Halpin Partnership.
Independent advisor for postgraduate research students
Senate re-appointed Prof Michael Threadgill as the University Independent Advisor for Postgraduate Research Students and Dr Marcelle McManus as the Deputy.
Senate re-appointed Dr Tim Woodman as the Deputy Marshal.
Senate approved revised appointment criteria and process for professors emeriti.
Senate noted a resolution from the Academic Assembly meeting on 10 January.
