Athena Swan offers a valuable framework for introducing cultural changes focussed on gender equity that create a better environment for all members of University community.
The Athena Swan University Self-Assessment Team (AS-USAT), led by Professor Marion Harney, are seeking staff and students to join the team to help us prepare to submit our institutional level Silver Award renewal in July 2026. This is an exciting moment to join, as this application will be laying strong foundations for a potential Gold application in 2031. We need passionate team players to help make this happen.
AS-USAT will be meeting regularly throughout the coming academic year (meetings are one hour, online via Teams):
- 21 October 2025, 10am
- 2 December 2025, 10am
- Second Tuesday of every month at 10am, January – June 2026.
In the staff area we are particularly seeking:
- Early career academics.
- Senior academics, including Professors.
- Staff with experience of gender equality work in the HE sector.
- Staff with experience of data analysis and drawing out key insights to recommend actions.
We are also seeking an undergraduate student and a PhD research student.
We currently have a high proportion of women on the team, so applications from men and non-binary staff and students are particularly sought.
Academics receive a 20-hour workload allocation for their work on AS-USAT. Student team members will receive a gift voucher each year of their participation, and all of the AS-USAT receive a certificate of recognition for their work.
You can read the AS-USAT terms of reference document here and AS-USAT membership for more information on the team.
Expressions of interest (no longer than 150 words) are to be submitted via this form by 13 October 2025.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Aiste Zubiniene, Equality Charters Manager, as836@bath.ac.uk and/or Professor Marion Harney, University’s Athena Swan Lead, abpmh@bath.ac.uk.
