We are delighted to announce that Sook Yeon Shim has joined the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) as a new Visiting Fellow.

Sook Yeon is Director for Social Disaster Policy in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), Republic of Korea, where she is responsible for national disaster and safety policy. Specialising in national disaster governance, climate change adaptation and public policy innovation, she has over 15 years’ experience in disaster research and policy implementation across both central government and research institutions.

During her time at the IPR, Sook Yeon will examine approaches to community resilience in the Republic of Korea and the UK, exploring how communities design and implement inclusive resilience policies that address the needs of vulnerable populations under changing climate conditions. The project aims to generate practical policy insights to enhance local disaster governance in the Republic of Korea. She will be with the IPR until September 2027.

On the appointment, Ashley Lait, Head of Policy Programmes and Communications at the IPR, said: “We very much look forward to welcoming Sook Yeon to the IPR and to learning from her extensive experience in such an increasingly important area of research and policy.”
