The Student Support Centre in 4 West and spaces in 1 West are to undergo refurbishment over the summer period with work planned to start on 5 August.
Services remain open
All support services will continue to operate throughout the summer without interruption. Students can continue to access our services in person, by email or by using our appointment request form.
To facilitate the programme of work, our helpdesk and Student Support Advice Team will temporarily relocate to 1 West from 1 August before returning to the new helpdesk area in 4 West.
The temporary helpdesk will be in 1 West. This can be found directly opposite the current 4 West centre on the other side of the Parade, to the right of the 3 West entrance. Access will be directly from the Parade not via the main 1 West entrance.
Signage will be in place to redirect users.
A design for students
The designs have been created following a consultation period taking in views from staff and students about our current spaces and how they are used. Particular attention was paid to how students feel and how they wish to access our services. We have also sought inspiration from other institutions and considered guidance from the Student Minds Mental Health Charter.
This feedback has been taken forward by a project group with representation from Student Support staff, Campus infrastructure, The SU and student representatives to create the final design.
The focus of the refurbishment is on the student facing areas which will aim to create a welcoming, modern and safe space, and accommodate our expanding services to support students.
The 4 West helpdesk area will undergo refurbishment including a redesigned waiting area, accessible reception desk, new signage, modern furniture, and improved privacy. Our consultation spaces will also be refreshed.
In 1 West our waiting area and consultation rooms will also be refurbished to create a welcoming and safe space for students to meet with our teams.
The works are expected to be completed in time for the new academic year.
