The University is saddened to learn of the death of Dr Arif Naveed, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education.
Arif made a significant contribution to the University during the time he was with us and was held in very high esteem by the University community. Arif joined us as a Lecturer in September 2019 and the quality of both his teaching and research on educational and social inequality secured his promotion to Senior Lecturer in February this year.
He will be greatly missed by his colleagues in the Department of Education and right across the University.
Professor Joe Devine, Associate PVC Research (Doctoral), who was a close friend, said: “Arif was a formidable scholar committed to improving opportunities that education can provide for the poorest. His passion and contribution to education was widely recognised in Pakistan and beyond as agenda setting.
“Anyone who met Arif will speak of his intellectual tenacity but also his kindness as a human being. Together with his wife Sana, Arif had a unique gift of making people around them always feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. He will be missed but his memory will stay with us.”
