The University of Bath has been ranked 6th nationally in the Guardian University Guide 2021, published on Saturday (5 Sept 2020).

The top 10 ranking is the same position as in 2019 and 2020 and makes Bath the highest ranking university in the south west once again, with 13 subjects in the top 10 rankings.

The full list of subjects ranked in the top 10 are: Accounting and Finance (3), Architecture (3), Business, Management and Marketing (3), Computer Science and Information Systems (7), Chemical Engineering (8), Civil Engineering (6), Mechanical Engineering (3), Pharmacy & Pharmacology (8), Politics (7), Psychology (4), Social Work (10), Sociology (4) and Sports Science (6).

President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian White, said: “I am delighted to see the University of Bath ranked 6th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2021.

“This is a superb endorsement of the quality of our teaching and courses, and shows the great talent, capability and commitment of both our students and our staff. It was particularly pleasing to see so many individual subjects ranked so highly.

“I offer my sincere thanks to everyone within our community whose efforts have contributed to this success, and to the many people who are working hard to prepare us for what will be a very different but equally energising year.”

The Guardian’s metrics for compiling the league table include:

  • Satisfaction with course;
  • Satisfaction with teaching;
  • Satisfaction with feedback;
  • Student to staff ratio;
  • Spend per students;
  • Average entry tariff;
  • A value added score comparing students degree results with their entry qualifications;
  • Career prospects;
  • Percentage of first-year students continuing into second year.
