The nomination celebrates the university’s innovative redesign of its student accommodation allocation process. The new "pick-and-mix" model prioritises inclusivity, flexibility, and wellbeing by empowering students to select housing aligned with their personal values and lifestyles. Options include LGBTQ+ and mature student flats, alcohol-free and quiet zones, as well as vegetarian-friendly environments, creating spaces where students can live among like-minded peers.
Since implementation, the model has led to a 29% increase in tailored housing requests and has received highly positive wellbeing feedback, particularly from neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ students. These outcomes underscore the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, student-centred living experience.
We’re proud to be recognised for the meaningful steps we’ve taken to improve the student experience. This recognition from CUBO affirms the value of inclusive practices in supporting student wellbeing and success.
