The University is pleased to welcome one of our current Global Chairs, Professor Steven Farber, for his second visit to campus from the 23rd June to the 4th July 2025.
Professor of Biology at Johns Hopkins University, Professor Farber is renowned for his pioneering research using zebrafish larvae to investigate the cell and molecular biology of lipids, bringing about fundamental insights into metabolic diseases. His research group at Johns Hopkins is distinguished by its development of novel techniques that facilitate significant discoveries in in basic biology. An elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2020, Professor Farber is also a passionate advocate for science education, founding the BioEYES outreach program to inspire young people in genetics and experimental science. Professor Farber will be hosted by members of the Milner Centre for Evolution, including Professors Philip Ingham, Laurence Hurst, and Robert Kelsh in the Department of Life Sciences.
Professor Farber’s visit will include working alongside Professor Philip Ingham to develop a proposal for a practical workshop, as well as holding discussions with members of senior management such as the PVC Global Engagement, Professor Manuel Barcia, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Duncan Craig, and the Associate Dean (Internationalisation) for the Faculty of Science, Professor Momna Hejmadi. He will also focus on exploring new community outreach possibilities for the BioEYES initiative at Bath, participate in a Royal Society event in London, and meet with both research staff and students across various disciplines.
The Global Chair scheme, a flagship program run by the International Relations Office (IRO), provides funding to attract internationally acclaimed scholars to Bath as distinguished visiting professors.
The IRO encourages researchers interested in potential interdisciplinary collaboration to contact them by email if they would like to meet Professor Farber during his time on campus.
