Strategy 2036 sets out how how we’ll build on Bath’s strengths to shape our future.

Welcome to Strategy 2036, our overarching framework for success for the next decade.

Our Strategy

Strategy 2036 has been developed with input from nearly 3,500 stakeholders including staff from across the University, helping us reflect the perspectives, ambitions and aspirations of our community.

It articulates our Vision, Mission and Values and sets out our three, agreed interdependent priorities: Global excellence with impact, Building from our strengths and Foundations for the future.

Underpinning plans

Underpinning our Strategy will be a series of rolling plans, which will set out how we will achieve our strategic ambitions, informed by the targets and KPIs we have already set.

Members of University Executive Board will be working with colleagues across the organisation to translate our new strategy into goals and targets, which will inform resource allocation:

  • Thematic Plans – these will be agreed first, will set the University-wide framework and be led by Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Executive Directors, with input from colleagues
  • Academic Plans – these will be developed next and led by Deans. They will use the Thematic Plans to set specific Faculty and School objectives, activities and allocation of resource
  • Professional Services Plans – these will be created next and led by Directors of Professional Services to enable the Thematic Plans and Academic Plans.

Turning Strategy to action

A Strategy will only succeed with the combined focus of our University community.

The Strategy provides a shared direction for the University, but how each of us contributes will look different depending on our role and team.

You don’t need to contribute to every strategic goal. The important thing is understanding where your work connects and using the Strategy to help inform your priorities and decisions.

Next steps

All line managers have been asked to lead meetings with their teams on the Strategy to discuss what it means for you, your role in delivering it, and connecting it to the work you do every day.

You can also find resources in the online Strategy Toolkit including the full Strategy 2036, concise Strategy at a Glance, FAQs, further information, and support.

We’ll regularly share our progress against goals and targets, including where we’re doing well and where we need to improve or learn for the future.
