On Wednesday 12 June, over 100 colleagues and PhD students from the Faculty of Engineering and Design attended the Research Culture Awards in the Claverton Rooms, supported by the Research England Enhancing Research Culture Fund.
The awards followed an initiation earlier in the year to nominate colleagues in the Faculty for a range of awards to recognise the values that are vital to the success of our research community.
The following awardees were presented with a trophy in recognition of their award:
- Research Culture Champion: Dr Leen Jabban, presented by Professor Pedro Estrela
- Good citizen: Professor David Coley, Suzanne Barkley, Dr Nael Berri, presented by Profesor Mirella Di Lorenzo
- Local Hero: William Bazeley and Joshua Barnes, presented by Julian Sulley
- Good Listener: Professor Antony Darby, presented by Dr Juliana Calabria-Holley
- Inclusive Ally: Dr Despina Moschou, presented by Professor Marion Harney
- Mentor: Dr Will Hawkins, Zois Michail Tsikriteas, and Dr Arya Shabani, presented by Hayley Shaw
- Recogniser: Brian Rutter, Paloma Rodriguez Santana, presented by Professor Chris Brace
- Generous Leader: Professor Tina Düren, presented by Professor Davide Mattia
- Radically Curious: Dr Matt Cole, presented by Professor Tina Düren
- Team Research Culture (Team Award): CAER Leadership Team: Professor Kevin Paine, Dr Lee Bryant and Professor Corwin Wright, presented by Professor Tim Ibell
- Second Team Award: Alison Ryan, Eirini Porfyraki and Professor Chris Bowen
Professor Tim Ibell, Dean of the Faculty, gave a brief welcome at the event. He said:
The Research Culture Awards are a true celebration of everybody who is part of the constitution of our Research Culture. If we get the culture right, all other success will follow. These awards celebrate that process of getting the culture right and I would like to thank all the awardees and nominees for your significant contribution.
Professor Chris Bowen, Associate Dean (Research), also spoke at the Awards. He said:
We were highly impressed and humbled by the quality of over 70 nominations from the Faculty of Engineering and Design for the Research Culture Awards across all categories. This is a true testament to the Faculty-wide success in enhancing our research culture which puts people at the heart of research and innovation.
