Applications are invited from any member of University staff who would be willing to serve as a Trustee on the Board of locally-based charity Designability.

Designability

A UK charity transforming the lives of people with disabilities.

Designability is a UK charity transforming the lives of people with disabilities. Their team of designers and engineers creates products to help people who are facing challenges every day through life-changing assistive technologies.

One example is the Wizzybug, the powered wheelchair for young disabled children which they make and provide to families free of charge.

Appointing trustees

Formed over 50 years ago as a joint venture between the University of Bath and the Royal United Hospitals Trust, the charity is now fully independent and has a surprisingly broad reach with disabled people across the UK and around the world using their products.

Resulting from this founding partnership, the University appoints two members of the Designability trustee board. These appointed trustees act wholly in the capacity of a charity trustee, with the role solely focussed on effective governance of Designability through the duties and responsibilities defined by the Charity Commission.

Become a trustee

Applications are now open.

Being a trustee is a voluntary role and as such, trustees receive no remuneration. However reasonable expenses can be claimed, for attendance at board meetings and other related events.

Trustees are appointed for up to three terms of office of three years and are expected to have a commitment to the mission of Designability and the ability to meet the time requirements. These are eight two-hour Board or sub-committee meetings a year and an annual Away Day.

Applications are sought from individuals, particularly from those with lived experience of disability, who have the skills to join both the Board and the Finance & Governance Committee, and full details are provided in the recruitment pack. While previous non-executive or similar experience is desirable it is not essential.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 13 February 2022.
