Project Management Essentials

A practical and interactive short course exploring the UoB approach to project management, and the skills involved in effective project management.

Course overview

2023/24 Semester 1&2 courses: This half day (in-person workshop) will run several times each semester.


This half day course highlights the value of effective project management and provides you with tools and templates to take away and use in your practice.

Course structure

  • This course is 1 x 4 hour session and will be held in person, on Campus
  • Course registration is from 9:00am
  • There is required pre-work
  • You must be able to commit to all elements

Who should attend

  • Those with no formal project management training to date who are interested in understanding and learning more about the UoB approach to project management
  • Anyone involved (or are soon to be involved) with a live project(s)

Presenters

The course will be led by members of the University of Bath Strategic Projects Office.


Pre-work

Review and complete pre-work for this course.


This course uses blended learning to make the most of your time. The session focuses on interaction, knowledge sharing and practice, and ensures you have plenty of opportunities to apply learnings to working practice through individual and group exercises.

Please note, you will need to complete all accompanying work and come to the session prepared and ready to engage with your colleagues.

The pre-work for this course will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

  • understand the UoB project management framework, best practise and how it can be applied
  • develop your awareness of key tools and templates that are available and how they can be used

Discussing your learning and development with your line manager

We assume that if you need permission or agreement to attend this course you will have arranged this before booking. To ensure the training is suitable and your learning can be transferred back to the workplace, you should also have discussed the following with your line manager:

  • how this training will help to deliver your individual/team goals
  • the expected outcomes (what is expected to change or improve as a result)
  • any support required post-course to enable you to transfer your learning back to the workplace

Your manager will receive an automated notification when you book or cancel a place on a course using ESS.

Book a place

You must book your place using Employee Self-Service (ESS). Places will be available to book on self-service up to 24 hours before the course, to allow for participants to complete the required pre-work. Download instructions on how to book your place using ESS.

Once you have booked your place on the course, please add the learning commitment to your diary, to ensure you remain available to attend.

Please note that we do not hold a waiting list for this course.

Cancel your place

You can cancel your place using Employee Self-Service (ESS). Download instructions on how to cancel your place using ESS.

Please cancel your place as early as possible (and at least three days in advance) to allow others to book instead.
