| Description:
| Aims: This unit aims to expose students to the perspectives related to the dynamics of the interaction between sport, science and people. It is also designed to inspire creativity and innovation in the coaching process, particularly in relation to the application of social science and sport science research. Learning Outcomes: To be able to apply many of the major findings of sport sciences to the art and science of coaching. To be able to apply many of the major findings of social sciences to the art and science of coaching. To draw from the broad spectrum of sport science research to critically examine coaching education as a professional practice. To draw from the broad spectrum of social science research to critically examine coaching education as a professional practice. Skills: Develop and apply the skills needed for academic study and enquiry (F/T) Synthesis information from a number of sources in order to gain a coherent understanding of theory and practice (F/T) Effectively and safely apply skills to the management of individuals and groups/teams, with continual analysis and evaluation outcomes and appropriate modification or intervention (F/T) Comprehensive and scholarly written communication (e.g. essays) F/A Concise, time-bound and effective written communication (e.g. briefings / exams) F/A Effective oral communication (e.g. seminar presentations) F/A Ability to select, summarise and synthesis written information from multiple sources. F/T/A Ability to develop rigorous arguments through precise use of concepts and models. F/T/A Ability to apply theory into practice. F/T/A Take responsibility for personal and professional learning and development (F) Content: This unit will teach the applications of sport and social science research to the management of teams/groups. It will facilitate the application of various skills (e.g. interpersonal, communication, leadership and technical analysis) to aid both individual and group/team performance. |
