Description: | Aims: To allow students to study a biological concept or system where mathematical modelling has made an important contribution. Learning Outcomes: Students will select a topic and, using supported self study materials they will * Learn the key biological concepts underpinning the topic. * Study some of the recent and/or seminal mathematical models which have been employed in the chosen biological system. * Produce a summary review document to be used as a learning resource for peers. * Engage in peer assessment of oral and written presentations. Skills: Reading scientific research papers (F); writing reports (T,A); critical analysis of reports and presentations (T, A); seminar presentations (F, A). Content: This will vary but topics could be chosen from those studied in the Semester 1 unit Biology/Biochemistry for Mathematical Biologists or chosen independently by the student in agreement with the Director of Studies. |
