* To develop the student's appreciation of the structure and properties of the natural knee joint;
* To contextualise the functional and biomechanical requirements of total knee replacement joints.

Learning Outcomes:
After successful completion of this unit the student will be able to:
* define and identify the principal anatomical structures of the knee;
* distinguish surgically relevant knee pathologies and their management;
* propose strategies for anatomic restoration;
* illustrate imaging techniques and their use in pre-operative planning;
* discuss the rationale of primary knee prosthesis design.
