Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To provide an advanced course in developmental biology based on the exciting current research in this field.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* provide a comprehensive review of the basic principles underlying development and organogenesis in vertebrate and invertebrate organisms;
* relate the mechanisms of development to cellular and molecular events;
* Critically evaluate the applications and implications of research in developmental biology to human developmental defects.

Learning and studying T/F/A, Written communication T/F/A, Information handling & retrieval T/F/A, Working independently T/F.

This course builds on year 2 material to give a comprehensive grounding in developmental biology. The lectures will cover HOX genes, somitogenesis, myogenesis, neural development, epithelial-mesenchymal interaction, cell polarity, stem cells, germline development, limb development and regeneration, developmental defects and wound healing. The analysis of Drosophila development to include the mechanism of segmentation and the patterning of the imaginal discs.
