![]() | Aims: To introduce students to the fields of psychology that relate to sport performance and exercise participation. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students should be able to: Discuss the nature and measurement of psychological constructs in the context of sport and exercise; and identify the key psychological concepts of sport performance and exercise participation. Skills: * To develop knowledge and understanding of core psychological constructs as they apply to sport - taught, facilitated and assessed * To apply theoretical knowledge to practice - taught, facilitated and assessed * To interpret information communicated through academic literature - taught, facilitated and assessed * Written Communication -facilitated and assessed * Statistical analysis and interpretation - facilitated and assessed * Working Independently - facilitated and assessed. Content: Fields of psychology: Introduction to cognitive and developmental psychology to sport and exercise; Personality and trait theories: Personality theory; socialisation theory; interactionist approach to sport and exercise; Concepts of Sport and exercise psychology: anxiety, stress & arousal; self confidence & self esteem; attention & concentration; motivation. |
