Description: | Aims: To extend the student's knowledge of how pharmaceutical companies are utilising contemporary scientific advances to identify drug targets and develop new drugs, and to promote their ability to undertake critical analysis of drug target selection and discovery programmes. Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit the student will: * Have developed a knowledge and understanding of current developments in drug discovery programmes within the pharmaceutical industry. * Be able to demonstrate an ability to generate, analyse and discuss a selection of research papers covering a specific area of current drug discovery. Skills: ICT (T/F/A) Critical analysis (T/F/A) Written communication (T/F/A) Verbal communication (F) Content: Students will attend a series of seminars designed to provide a number of skills valued by employers in the pharmaceutical industry. Guest lecturers from pharmaceutical companies will speak on various aspects of drug target identification and validation as well as drug discovery within the biomedical field. |
