To provide an understanding of the principles and methods of façade construction.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the Unit the students must demonstrate the ability to:
* analyse thin walled structures, plates and shells.
* specify and undertake testing of façade structures.

Skills:
Analysis and appraisal of the structural performance of complex façades. Presentation of complex results. Oral communication skills facilitated in a multi-disciplinary group environment. Written communication skills assessed.

Content:
Shear and torsion, buckling, thin walled structures, plates and shells, methods of analysis and testing.
