Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:

* To give students a systematic grounding in the basic structures of Italian grammar and syntax and to progress further during the academic year up to approximately intermediate level;
* To enable students to use these structures correctly in short written texts to more complex written texts towards the end of the academic year;
* To develop basic oral skills dealing with predictable content and to expand vocabulary and enable students to express themselves in a wide range of topics supported by pertinent lexis by the end of the academic year;
* To develop and extend students aural comprehension from basic and familiar subjects to a larger number of situations and contexts during the academic year;
* To gain understanding of oral and written material from a variety of practical and everyday situations to a larger number of situations and contexts towards the end of the academic year.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
* Demonstrate good knowledge of basic grammar structures and be able to use and understand more complex structures of the Italian language;
* Use grammar structures in written texts mostly in areas of simple narration and immediate need and use more complex structures correctly in longer written texts;
* Display command of several basic communicative functions and of a broader range of vocabulary;
* Demonstrate oral skills in a variety of familiar subjects;
* Discuss about predictable situations with native and non-native speakers of Italian.

Skills:

* Precision and creativity in the use of basic written language and in areas of practical need and narration of events towards the end of the academic year;
* Make simple and effective oral statements in the target language and effective communication in the target language in a variety of real- life situations;
* Independent learning strategies.

Content:

* Written language: from basic structures of Italian grammar and syntax to more complex grammar points;
* Spoken language: audio-visual material, presentations, role plays, debates, conversation.
