Description: | Aims: * To develop advanced communication skills (in written and spoken forms); * To foster reflection on language structures and use through analysis of the target language and through translation in and out of English; * To consolidate students' intercultural competence in order to prepare them for social and professional interaction in a globalized world. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to: * Show sound communication skills in both written and spoken forms, with an advanced level of fluency, accuracy and appropriateness of language use; * Analyse texts in the target language (style, register, lexical and syntactical features) ; * Demonstrate mediation skills between the target culture and the culture of origin. Skills: Precision and creativity in the use of written and spoken language; * Effective communication in the target language; * Independent learning strategies; * Employability and transferable skills. Content: * Written Language: translation in and out of English; analysis of contemporary texts, argumentation, summarization and essay writing. * Spoken language: group debate and discussion, individual presentations on a wide range of cultural, political, social subjects; audio-visual activities. |
