Learning Outcomes: | By the end of the Unit, you will be able to:
1. use relevant software to construct 2-D drawings of their design projects; 2. communicate using 3-D Tools; 3. produce 3-D models to create photo-realistic static views and animations from these models. |
Synopsis: | This Unit provides you with a critical understanding of digital techniques in relation to the design process. It introduces you to the use of 2D CAD software in the construction industry, and develop 3-D digital modelling. The principles of rendering and animation will be introduced.
These communication techniques form an important aspect in relating to the non-design professional world. The Unit also familiarises you in the use of all equipment in the CAD-CAM Workshop environment. |
Content: | This Unit provides the digital tools necessary to represent and communicate clearly in a design project report, to work closely with Studio 1.2. Topics will include the creation of basic 2D drawing elements in AutoCAD and the creation of a 2D design file based on the Design Studio project. 3D digital modelling in Sketchup and 2D image manipulation in Photoshop will also be included. Other skills might also include: importing models between software packages, setting up camera positions and animation paths; creating and assigning textures and materials; lighting 3D models; putting together presentations. Seminars will also be organised in the use of all equipment in the CAD-CAM Workshop environment. |
