Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
  • Acquire, analyse and process information from a variety of sources which are relevant to a pre-chosen research project
  • Develop and promote a research proposal, showing commercial awareness and alignment with the UN sustainable development goals.
  • Produce a working programme of research based on available facilities
  • Reflect on your work in order to plan continuing professional development and personal development.


Synopsis: You will advance your knowledge of professional skills in areas such as employability, commercial awareness, continuing professional development (CPD) and change management. You will develop skills to evaluate problems in the face of complexity and uncertainty and identify gaps in research in preparation for your dissertation. Working with a member of staff you will develop the research proposal for your dissertation.

Content: Professional practice skills: collaboration and teamwork; commercial awareness; time management; change management; CV & interview readiness; cultural diversity & leadership, continuous professional development
Academic writing skills: planning and structuring texts; reflective skills development and peer review
Research skills: Ethics in research; developing a research hypothesis / question; conducting a literature survey and writing a literature review; devising a research proposal
