Learning Outcomes: Students will have developed a fuller knowledge and understanding of international trade. They will have acquired greater awareness of economic debates relating to trade and trade policies. They will have learnt how to apply theory to international trade issues and how these issues are researched empirically.

Aims: The aim of the Unit is to provide an economic perspective on issues relating to international trade.

Skills: Understanding and applying theory. Understanding empirical research. Relating theory and empirics to contemporary debates and policy issues. Critical reading. Analytical thinking. Discussing ideas. Communication skills.

Content: Topics include: the pattern and importance of international trade; determinants and welfare effects of international trade; instruments and effects of trade policy; trade and labour; trade and nature.
