Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: 1. Analyse advanced issues and topics pertaining to leisure, tourism, and the environment
2. Analyse and apply relevant social sciences theories and concepts in examining the nature of leisure and tourism and their environmental implications
3. Analyse and apply ideas from reputable academic (e.g., scholarly journals) and non-academic (e.g., government reports) sources in examining leisure, tourism, and the environment from historical and contemporary perspectives
4. Working as part of a team, produce a research project to tackle a contemporary issue or challenge related to leisure, tourism, and the environment
5. Working as part of a team, present your research project to intended audiences, using appropriate technologies
6. Identify, evaluate, and discuss problems and challenges in sport policy and development, and generate and justify solutions as part of a group.

Aims: The aim of this unit is to explore the history and development of sport and leisure tourism markets, key consumer characteristics, and present-day and pending environmental implications of sport and leisure participation.

Skills: Effectively manage time, resources, responsibilities, and changing contexts to meet personal goals and course requirements.
Take initiative in identifying problems and formulating solutions.
Effectively utilise contemporary information and communication technologies (ICTs).
Reflect on and constructively utilise feedback to facilitate learning.
Demonstrate awareness of employment pathways and opportunities relevant to the course.

Content: Theories and concepts for studying sport, tourism, and the environment (e.g., role theory, hedonistic landscapes, anthropocentrism); sport and leisure tourism markets (e.g. auratic, niche, mass, adventure, health, holistic); impacts of sport and leisure tourism in the context of climate change; policy and market driven strategies for sustainable sport and leisure tourism development (e.g., ecological modernisation, carrying capacity, limits of acceptable change model); case studies in sport and leisure tourism.
