Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit the student will be able to:
* Develop a detailed understanding of the meaning and importance of HRM
* Understand and evaluate key HR functions.
* Identify and critique the theoretical perspectives that contribute to these HR functions
* Identify and discuss how various HR functions impact each other
* Analyse and evaluate the linkages between HR functions and their practical applications
* Identify and discuss the appropriate skills that are linked to the practical application of these HR functions
* Evaluate the strategic importance of HRM in organisations
* Understand and evaluate of how HR functions impact individual and organisational performance.

Aims: The course aims to give a broad overview of major features of human resource management. It examines issues from the contrasting perspectives of management and employees.

Skills: Juxtaposition of theory , and practice as well as the link between them (taught/assessed)
Identification and critique of good practice (taught/assessed)
Practical exercise, case studies, real life examples (written, video or previous experience based) (taught/facilitated/assessed)

Content: Meaning and importance of HRM, Recruitment, Selection, Negotiation, Training and Development, Performance Management, Employee Attitudes and Behaviours, Strategic HRM.
