| After successfully completing this unit, students should be able to:
* Use a range of scientific laboratory apparatus correctly
* Set up and carry out a range of experimental procedures accurately
* Make and accurately report observations and estimate errors correctly
* Use a scientific log book correctly and write a lab report
* Write a python programme to explore a data set
* Use key statistical techniques correctly
* Discuss the scientific aspects of current affairs.

To provide students with a range of tools to analyse, present and interpret scientific data.
To develop students' ability to write scientifically.

| Content: | Laboratory experiments from two subject departments (Biology & Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics) covering standard techniques relevant to the discipline.
Introduction to programming in Python.
Key statistical techniques, eg summary statistics, probability distributions, sampling.
Scientific considerations of current affairs eg. covid-19.
