This discount applies to students with Home, EU or Overseas fee statuses.

Scope

If you have graduated with a full degree from a previous and separate course at the University of Bath, you may be eligible for a discount of 10% on any part of your tuition fees for which you are personally responsible. To be eligible for the discount you must not be receiving any:

  • sponsorship, scholarships or bursaries which cover the full cost of the fees
  • state funding in the form of loans or grants which cover the full cost of the fees

We will apply the discount just before payment of the tuition fee is due.

If you are found to be in breach of these terms and conditions, the University is entitled to immediately suspend any further discount and may seek to recover any or all amounts of previous payments made.

The University reserves the right to vary or withdraw the alumni discount at its sole discretion.

1. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible you must:

1.1 Be a graduate of the University of Bath. That is, you must have qualified (or be due to qualify) on a full honours undergraduate or postgraduate degree (eg a BSc, BA, MEng, MA, MSc, MRes, MPhil).

1.2 The majority of study courses will qualify for the award, but please check the exceptions list in section 5.

1.3 Be self-financing the tuition fee for your course.

Self-financing

You are self-financing if you are paying all or some of your tuition fees yourself (this includes a Postgraduate Master's Loan or a Doctoral Loan).

You are still deemed to be self-financing if you have support from a friend or relative.

2. Other regulations pertaining to the Alumni Fee Discount

2.1 The alumni discount is available if you commence a new postgraduate programme of study at the University (this includes postgraduate CPD courses).

2.2 The 10% alumni discount will apply for all years of study, for the normal duration of the course (pro rata for part-time courses).

2.3 There is no discount for any period where writing up fees are payable.

2.4 The 10% alumni discount applies only to the net tuition fee that you would otherwise pay. That is, after any other scholarships or award from the University have been deducted.

2.5 The 10% discount on tuition fees is not transferable and is applied as a reduction in the tuition fee due and excludes bench fees. The University does not permit the 10% fee discount to be used for any other purpose and there is no cash alternative.

2.6 The 10% alumni discount does not apply when arrangements are in place to offer a higher discount to alumni on specific courses, e.g. MSc Economics for Business Intelligence Systems. Information can be found on the individual course pages.

2.7 You will not be eligible for the 10% alumni discount for the 2020/21 academic year if you are receiving the Postgraduate Progression Award Tuition Fee discount.

3. Funding from sponsors or other sources

3.1 It is your responsibility to advise your Admissions Office and the University’s Student Finance Office if you have applied for, or have obtained other funding for your tuition fees.

3.2 If you receive funding in full for your tuition fees from another source, including Research Councils, then you are not eligible for the 10% discount.

3.3 In the event that a studentship or sponsorship covering all or part of your tuition fees is awarded after the start of your course, the discount will apply only to fees payable before the effective start date of your studentship or sponsorship, and only to fees not covered by your studentship or sponsorship thereafter.

4. How to qualify for this award

4.1 You do not need to complete a separate application form for the Alumni Tuition Fee Discount. Details of your eligibility will be assessed by your Admissions Office as part of your application process. See how to apply.

4.2 If you feel that you are eligible for the alumni discount but this has not been included in your offer letter, please contact your Admissions Office. If you have been denied an alumni discount but consider that you have good grounds for your case to be reconsidered, you should submit a written case in the first instance to your Admissions Office. Any final decision about the interpretation or application of the eligibility criteria will be taken by the Academic Director of PGT Recruitment and Admissions. You will be able to use the Admissions complaints and appeals procedure if you are unhappy with that final decision. Any queries relating to these terms and conditions should be directed to Claire Bannister, Head of PGT Admissions at mnsclb@bath.ac.uk or 01225 384442.

5. Course exceptions

5.1 Courses which are not eligible for the Alumni Tuition Fee Discount include:

  • pre-sessional courses
  • occasional study courses (like foreign language classes)
  • exchange programmes

5.2 Previous study on courses that do not carry formal degree status means that you are not eligible for the alumni discount. This includes previous study on:

  • pre-sessional courses
  • occasional study courses (like foreign language classes)
  • any certificate or diploma course

5.3 If you transfer or progress from one course to another your second or subsequent course may not eligible for the alumni discount. For example:

  • a University of Bath student who transfers from MSc Health Psychology to MSc Wellbeing & Human Development without completing the MSc Health Psychology course is not eligible for a discount on the MSc Wellbeing & Human Development course
  • a University of Bath student who progresses from the BSc in Architecture to the MArch is not eligible for the discount as this course forms part of the normal progression arrangements for architectural studies. In addition, for UK home students, this course qualifies for funding under the government package of support for student loans and grants
  • a student with no previous degree study at Bath who starts an Integrated PhD, who completes the taught element and progresses onto PhD programme is not eligible for the discount, as this is regarded as one course

6. Suspensions/withdrawals/extensions and resubmissions

6.1 If you subsequently withdraw from studies then your discount will be applied pro rata the level of fees accrued for the time studied.

6.2 If you are due a refund, Student Finance will contact you.

6.3 If any tuition fees are outstanding, Student Finance will invoice you for the amount due.

6.4 You can usually only claim the discount for the normal length of your studies.
