Attendees of the Improving Healthcare Operations workshop

The workshop brought together early career researchers currently based in Turkey or the UK (final year doctoral students, research associates, post-doctoral fellows and lecturers/assistant professors) with an interest in the application of operational research, systems modelling and simulation techniques to health care problems. Our vision was to provide these researchers with an academic rigorous but friendly environment in which to present their work, enhance their network and initiate new research projects. The expert speakers and the topics of masterclasses were:

  • Erwin Hans, University of Twente: Optimization in Healthcare Operations
  • Tolga Tezcan, London Business School: Stochastic Models in Healthcare Operations
  • Anita Tucker, Boston University: Empirical Research in Healthcare Operations

We also created a sandpit environment for smaller problem solving teams to form and start working on developing initial modelling approaches and prototype solutions.

We ran a similar and very successful event in July 2017. Although similar in structure to the previous event, in 2018 we focused more on the modelling aspects of the suggested approaches.
