International Baccalaureate
Typical offer

International Baccalaureate Diploma
36 points overall and 6, 6, 6 or 7, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in either HL Mathematics and 6 in one other science or technology subject.
We accept Sports, Exercise and Health Science as a science subject for this course.
Mathematics is required at Higher Level. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to consider you if you are studying a science or technology subject at Standard Level instead of Higher Level. Our typical offer in this instance would be 36 points overall with 6, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in either HL Mathematics plus 7 in one science or technology subject at Standard Level.
International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme
We consider applicants studying the IBCP on a case-by-case basis based on the individual components studied. To be considered for this course you will need to study either Mathematics course at Higher Level alongside other IB Higher Level subjects or vocational study equivalent to two A levels. This vocational study can be any qualification we accept, such as a BTEC National Diploma (RQF) or two BTEC National Extended Certificates (RQF), and should include sufficient Engineering content. If you are studying a BTEC National Extended Diploma (RQF) or BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) in Engineering as part of your IBCP, then we may be able to consider you without Higher Level Mathematics alongside. Please see the guidance in the relevant BTEC sections below.

Pearson Edexcel BTEC RQF
Typical offer
D*DD or DDD plus A at A level
D*DD in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (RQF).
DDD in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (RQF) plus grade A in A level Mathematics.
We are able to consider the above qualifications in Engineering. If you are not taking an A level in Mathematics alongside your BTEC, then you must be studying and achieve a Distinction in the following unit: Further Engineering Mathematics.
It is preferable that you are studying Mathematics at A level. Your offer will be based on the type and level of qualifications that you are taking. If your application looks suitable and you are not studying an A level in Mathematics alongside your BTEC, then you may be invited to an interview as part of the selection process.
We may be able to consider an application from you if you are studying a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science, IT or Music Technology/Production alongside an A level in Mathematics.
In addition to our essential GCSE requirements in English, we also prefer you to have: grade 6 or B in GCSE Mathematics and two science subjects.

Pearson Edexcel BTEC QCF

We are able to consider the above qualifications in Engineering. If you are not taking an A level in Mathematics alongside your CTEC, then you must be studying and achieve a Distinction in the following units: Applied Maths for Engineering.

If your application looks suitable and you are not studying an A level in Mathematics alongside your Cambridge Technical, then you may be invited to an interview as part of the selection process.

Scottish Highers
Typical offer
AA in Advanced Highers
AA in two Advanced Highers including Mathematics and one other science or technology subject.
We make offers based on Advanced Highers. You will typically be expected to have completed five Scottish Highers and your grades in these will be considered as part of your application. We prefer applicants who have achieved at least AAAAB in their Highers.
Access to HE Diploma
Typical offer
36 credits at Distinction
A pass in the Access to HE Diploma (in Science or Engineering), with at least 36 credits achieved at Distinction and 3 credits achieved at Merit or above. This must include 12 credits from Mathematics units (including calculus) achieved at Distinction.
Open University credits
Typical offer
Pass units worth 120 credits including S217 Physics: From Classical to Quantum and a Pass 2 with 75% in a relevant Level 2 Mathematics unit worth at least 30 credits.
We typically would be looking for you to have studied units worth at least 120 credits including at least 30 credits at Level 2. We would ideally be looking for you to be taking units including MST124: Essential Mathematics 1, MST224: Mathematical Methods and or S217: Physics: From Classical to Quantum. This information is a guide and we consider students applying with Open University Credits on a case-by-case basis. We will consider your application carefully and take note of any previous qualifications or relevant work experience. We may be able to consider alternative units to those listed. Please contact us to discuss your profile.
Taking OU credits may be counted as degree-level study by the Student Loans Company and therefore may be counted as previous study and have an impact on your ability to access student loans for the entirety of your chosen degree. We recommend that you discuss this in detail with the SLC before following this progression route to the University of Bath.
Combinations of qualifications
Typical offer
Your application will be considered individually based on the particular combination of qualifications and subjects that you are taking.
We can consider combinations of accepted qualifications, of which some common examples are:
- AA in A level Mathematics and a second science or technology subject, plus D in the BTEC National Extended Certificate (RQF) or Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate (RQF).
- AA in two A levels plus D3 in a Pre-U principal subject including Mathematics and a second science or technology subject
- AA in A level Mathematics and a second science or technology subject, plus A in the IFS Diploma in Financial Studies.
We can also consider combinations that are not listed and that do not include A levels. You should read the information about essential and preferred subjects and subject combinations. We cannot consider different qualifications in the same subject area.
Pearson Edexcel HNC or HND
Typical offer
We are able to consider HNC/HND qualifications in Engineering disciplines for entry into the first year of our course. You will need to gain an overall grade of Distinction, including a Distinction in at least 20 credits of Level 4 Mathematics. As our courses require solid foundations in Mathematics, we prefer you to have studied AS or A level Mathematics in addition to your HNC/HND qualification and encourage you to take this route if it is available.
Please note that HNC and HND qualifications may be counted as degree-level study by the Student Loans Company and therefore may have an impact on your ability to access student loans for the entirety of your chosen degree. We recommend that you discuss this in detail with the SLC before following this progression route to the University of Bath.
