Associate organisations

This is a guide to the definition of the types of organisations which are associated with the University.

Associate Organisation refers to an external body or entity that has a formal relationship with the University of Bath. They are not owned or directly governed by us. They are separate legal entities and have independent governance structures. They may, though, be subject to oversight or reporting.

These organisations are often involved in collaborative activities such as:

  • academic delivery (e.g. joint programmes or teaching partnerships)
  • research collaboration
  • student support or representation
  • commercial or operational services

Research collaborations which have their own separate governance include:

The University provides certain level of HR and Payroll and in some cases, IT services for the following associate organisations. These may be set up with a Service Level Agreement:

Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion is a separate commercial and legal entity which is wholly owned by the University, and so is a subsidiary.
