Procession registration

The number of people in each procession will be limited.

All Heads of Departments will be asked to identify a small group of 5-10 staff to take part in each of their ceremonies. The identified staff will be emailed information on how to access the Graduation Attire website to register for their ceremony.

Staff gowns

Gowns for staff taking part in processions will be provided by Graduation Attire.

When staff register for their ceremony on the Graduation Attire website they will be asked to confirm their gown details.

Only those registered for the ceremony on the Graduation Attire system can take part in the procession.

A briefing document providing more details such as when to arrive will be emailed to all those registered to take part in the processions.

All ceremonies will take place in Bath Abbey.

Staff gowning will take place in the new Learning Centre below the Abbey. Access to the Learning Centre is through Number 9, Kingston Building which is in the courtyard to the South of the Abbey.

Getting to Bath Abbey

Coaches will be available to take staff from campus to Bath Abbey for each ceremony.

The coach timings can be found on this page

COVID-19 measures

Event arrangements will be guided by the latest public health advice affecting the general public or Higher Education providers in particular which remains subject to change and could lead to cancellation at short notice.

Bath Abbey will be used to full capacity and the ceremonies are being planned with no social distancing in place, however the academic procession will be limited due to the robing space available and the stage will allow space between seats.

Doors will be left open between ceremonies to allow the space to purge and cleaning will also take place.

Any Conditions of Entry for those attending the ceremonies, such as the wearing of face coverings, will be in line with those in place on campus. Final confirmation of Conditions of Entry will be circulated to attendees, including staff, in advance of the ceremonies.

The Events Team are liaising with the University Health & Safety team on ceremony arrangements and a risk assessment has been carried out.

Honorary graduates

Honorary degrees will be awarded at one ceremony per day.
