This course will enhance your English language discussion skills and build your confidence with spoken communication in academic contexts.

Develop your fluency and confidence in English

The 5-week Discussions Skills course is for all undergraduate and postgraduate students who use English as a second language.

The course aims to build your confidence with spoken English so that you can participate effectively in English language discussions at university and beyond.

You will:

  • learn how to contribute, interrupt, give opinions, ask for opinions and change the topic in a way that will make it easy for you to be understood
  • learn new vocabulary, improve your fluency and have lots of opportunities to develop and practise your pronunciation
  • improve your general communication skills which are vital in the workplace

Note, if you want to develop your vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, speaking and writing skills, we also run a separate General English course each semester.

Semester 1 2023/24 course

The Semester 1 Discussions Skills course will run from weeks 3-7 (18 October to 15 November 2023). The class runs on Wednesdays from 2.15pm to 4.05pm in-person on campus.
