Library Opening times and Staffed Service hours

Please check the advice below regarding Library staffed service hours, service availability and contacting the Library.

The Library Building

The Library building is open 24 hours a day, all year round including all national and University holidays though staffed services will vary.

Very occasionally, these opening hours are subject to change. We will give as much notice as possible of any changes online and using Library news channels.

In case of severe weather, a news item is normally added to the University homepage to notify of any changes to the campus and library building opening hours.

Christmas Vacation Services

  • Christmas vacation starts Monday 14 December and ends on Sunday 3 January 2021.

  • Staffed services will operate as normal from Monday 14 to Friday 18 December.

  • There will be no staffed Library services from Saturday 19 December to Sunday 3 January 2021.

  • The Library building will remain open for University members. Self-Service facilities will be available throughout the Christmas vacation period.

  • Semester-time staffing will resume from 9:00 on Monday 4 January.

Issue Desk and Self-Issue

The Issue Desk is based on Level 2 of the Library. Staff here can assist with borrowing library items, user account queries, paying fines and can provide general advice about using the Library.

The Issue Desk is also responsible for issuing new and replacement Library cards to staff and students. There is online information about getting a library card available for reference. You can contact library@bath.ac.uk with specific queries.

Issue Desk Semester time staffing:

  • Monday - Friday from 0900 to 1700

Self-issue machines:

The Self-Issue machines are available for use, on Level 2, at any time when the Library building is open.  You will require your Library card to use the Self-Issue machines. You can watch a video guide to using Self-Issue.

No borrowed items are due for return during any University Vacations or closed periods but they can be returned via the Book Discharge slots near the Issue Desk anytime the building is open.

Loan items will be discharged from borrower accounts the next working day.
