Library Opening times and Staffed Service hours

Please check the advice below regarding contacting service staff during the current Covid-19 situation.

The Library Building

Normally, the Library building is open 24 hours a day, all year round including all national and University holidays.

Very occasionally, these opening hours are subject to change. We will give as much notice as possible of any changes online and using Library news channels.

In case of severe weather, a news item is normally added to the University homepage to notify of any changes to the campus and library building opening hours.

At the present time only Level 2 of the Library is open to provide study spaces and some library services as detailed here.

Issue Desk and Self-Issue - Covid-19 arrangements

Queries related to books, library cards and any other library account issue should be sent electronically to: library@bath.ac.uk. Staff will answer questions and pass on advice online wherever possible.

The Issue Desk is based on Level 2 of the Library. Staff here can assist with borrowing library items, user account queries, paying fines and can provide general advice about using the Library.

The Issue Desk is also responsible for issuing new and replacement Library cards to staff and students. Please contact library@bath.ac.uk for advice on getting a library card.

New student cards are being posted to campus halls of residence and private accommodation. The Virgil Building Reception will distribute library cards for city-based students in university owned accommodation.

Issue Desk Semester time staffing:

  • Monday - Friday from 0900 to 1700

Self-issue machines:

The Self-Issue machines are available for use, on Level 2, at any time when the Library building is open.  You will require your Library card to use the Self-Issue machines.

No borrowed items are due for return during any University Vacations or closed periods but they can be returned via the Book Discharge slots near the Issue Desk anytime the building is open.

Loan items will be discharged from borrower accounts the next working day.
