University calculators

Information about the calculators provided in University exams.

Calculator information

Each University exam must have a stated calculator status, which is one of the following three, mutually exclusive categories, in accordance with University Rule 2 and Regulation 15.

  • University Calculators are required
  • Candidates may use their own calculators
  • No calculators are permitted

The model of University Calculator is the Casio FX-991EX.

Information about this calculator can be reached on Casio's website.

Opportunities to try out the calculators

If you'd like to familiarise yourself with the model, you may borrow one briefly from the Library Reader Services Desk from 26 April 2023.

Use of own calculators

If your exam permits the use of your own calculator, you are expected to bring one with you. University calculators will not be available to borrow at the venue.

Procedures for invigilators

University porters will place a University Calculator on the relevant desks alongside additional exam materials in each main venue.

In all cases where the use of University Calculators is required, candidates supplied with them will be required to quote the calculator number on each cover page of their script. Failure to quote the number may result in disciplinary action which may include the imposition of a fine.
