Research Associate - ProSPECT (Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering to work with Professor Chris Bowen who has been awarded a prestigious UKRI Frontier Research Project in Porous Processing of Smart Porous Electro-Ceramic Transducers.

About the role

This role will aim to develop processing methods based on directional freezing to produce porous ferroelectric materials with a range of porous architectures, including multi-layer porous structures. Materials produced will be characterised in detail for electrical and mechanical properties. Applications include SONAR, sensing and energy harvesting, including fabrication and characterisation of demonstration devices.

The research will be disseminated in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and key international conferences.

The position is available from February 2023 with an expected duration of 30 months.

About you

Applicants require a degree and PhD in a relevant discipline (materials, physics, electrical engineering) and a proactive approach to multi-disciplinary research. Applicants with skills in materials processing, characterisation and ferroelectric/piezoelectric materials are particularly welcome.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Prof. Chris Bowen on 01225 383660 or c.r.bowen@bath.ac.uk.
