We offer a variety of benefits encompassing pay, pension and work-life balance, along with excellent facilities on campus.
Pay
Pay awards to recognise cost of living increases are negotiated nationally through the Universities & Colleges Employers’ Association (UCEA) with recognised trade unions. We have a defined pay and grading structure which is adjusted in line with the national pay award. Grades for individual jobs are determined through the application of the Higher Education Role Analysis scheme (HERA).
Contribution pay
We operate a Contribution Pay scheme for recognising and rewarding staff for exceptional performance within their current grade. We recognise and encourage sustained excellence, commitment and professionalism. A similar scheme also exists for professorial and senior professional staff at the University.
Recognition
Our Recognising Excellence Awards take place twice a year, where we celebrate and reward colleagues who’ve made an impact in their team or department.
Pension
We offer two generous pension schemes – Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the University of Bath Group Pension Plan (UoBGPP). Both schemes include a provision for ill-health, a death in service lump sum payment and an annual pension. When you join, you’ll be notified in your contract which pension scheme you’re eligible for.
Work-life balance
We offer generous holiday entitlements which include the eight statutory bank holidays, with an additional five further discretionary days. For those with family/caring responsibilities, we have a package of family friendly policies which provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and leave for family emergencies. We also have a hybrid working model for professional services staff who are able to carry out their work remotely.
Employee discounts
As a member of staff, you’ll gain access to discounts across a number of local and national retailers and local Bath attractions such as The American Museum and Gardens and the Holburne Museum.
Childcare
We have an on-site nursery − Westwood Nursery, which is Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’. To support with the cost of childcare, we offer a salary exchange childcare voucher scheme.
Transport
Our employees can take advantage of the government cycle to work scheme. You can also benefit from employee discounts available at a selection of bike shops. As part of the University’s commitment to reduce our environmental impact and to reach Net Zero carbon emissions by 2040, we support Active Travel, encouraging travel by foot, bike or public transport wherever possible.
If you’re driving to work, there is subsidised parking available on site which costs just £1.40 a day for occasional users, with the option to buy monthly or annual permits. We also have electric vehicle charging points which are free to use.
Relocation & immigration expenses
There are support packages available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of relocation and immigration while working here. Find out more about moving to Bath.
