Find us on Glassdoor.

Our Mission is to deliver world class research and teaching, educating our graduates to become future leaders and innovators, benefiting the wider population through our research, enterprise and influence.

We are a truly international community with over 120,000 alumni located in 173 countries around the globe. Nearly 30 per cent of our academics and students are international.

Recently named The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year 2023, we’re a top destination for students in an increasingly competitive market. Our students are attracted by our academic reputation, our graduate employment record, outstanding sports facilities and the social, recreational and personal development opportunities we offer.

Our staff play a vital role in creating the University’s vibrant and innovative academic community. And we value working collaboratively with others within our global network of contacts across business, public and voluntary sectors.

There’s a real sense of community here among both staff and students, and our beautifully landscaped campus provides a safe and friendly environment to work in.

Benefits

We offer a variety of benefits encompassing pay, pension and work-life balance, along with excellent facilities on campus.

Pay

Pay awards to recognise cost of living increases are negotiated nationally through the Universities & Colleges Employers’ Association (UCEA) with recognised trade unions. We have a defined pay and grading structure which is adjusted in line with the national pay award. Grades for individual jobs are determined through the application of the Higher Education Role Analysis scheme (HERA).

Pension

We offer two generous pension schemes – Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the University of Bath Group Pension Plan (UoBGPP). Both schemes include a provision for ill-health, a death in service lump sum payment and an annual pension. When you join, you’ll be notified in your contract which pension scheme you’re eligible for.

Life-Work Balance

We offer generous holiday entitlements which include the eight statutory bank holidays, with an additional five further discretionary days. For those with family/caring responsibilities, we have a package of family friendly policies which provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and leave for family emergencies. We also have a hybrid working model for professional services staff who are able to carry out their work remotely.

Contribution Pay

We operate a Contribution Pay scheme for recognising and rewarding staff for exceptional performance within their current grade. We recognise and encourage sustained excellence, commitment and professionalism. A similar scheme also exists for professorial and senior professional staff at the University.

Childcare

We have an on-site nursery − Westwood Nursery, which is Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’. To support with the cost of childcare, we offer a salary exchange childcare voucher scheme.

Transport

Our employees can take advantage of the government cycle to work scheme and there are employee discounts available at various cycling shops. If you’re driving to work, there is subsidised parking available on site.

Staff Development

Opportunities for Professional Development

There are plenty of opportunities available to help you develop new skills and advance your career here and we encourage all our employees to take advantage of what’s on offer.

Induction and Probation

In your first few months with us, you’ll be given support to learn all that's required to do your job and understand how the University works. You’ll be trained on relevant systems and be invited to join an 'Introduction to the University' day.

Staff Development and Performance Review

Our annual review scheme takes place with your line manager and is at the heart of your professional development. You’ll meet throughout the year to identify areas for development and look at opportunities to fulfil those needs.

Learning Opportunities

We offer plenty of development opportunities across a broad range of topics, from lunchtime briefing sessions to accredited programmes you’ll work on over time. There are opportunities both internally and using experts from external companies. If you can’t find the learning you need internally, it may also be possible to attend courses outside the University.
