Health and Safety training standard

This standard sets out how the University meets its legal duty to ensure all its workers have the necessary competency to carry out the work expected of them.

Policy

Health and Safety legislation requires that all staff, including temporary and part-time staff and research students, should receive adequate and appropriate information, instruction and training on appointment as necessary to enable them to undertake their duties without undue risk to themselves or others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

All students on taught courses should receive adequate instruction, information and training that enables them to undertake all aspects of their courses without undue risk to themselves or others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

This safety standard sets out how the University will manage this responsibility. It includes details on the responsibilities of line managers, employees and others to enable the University to comply with this duty.

The supplementary document provides an example Training Needs Assessment Matrix

This standard (including the supplementary assessment matrix) was reviewed and agreed at UHSC on 9 March 2023. The next scheduled review is March 2026.
